DESCRIPTION
The Freelon Group was invited as part of an international design competition, following the successful completion of the Pre-design and Programming Phase, by the Smithsonian Institution to design the new National Museum of African American History & Culture on the Mall in DC.
As a Senior Designer and Associate for the Freelon Group, participated the six-week long design charrette, provided design leadership and team coordination including: building program development; overall Master Facilities Program and program alignment; concept development and diagramming; and final competition board layout and graphics.
In April 2009, the Freelon Adjaye Bond SmithGroup team was successfully selected by the Smithsonian Institution to design and build the new museum, chosen over five other teams including Norman Foster and Diller, Scofidio & Renfro.
